Fixing a Leaky Basement with Structural Problems

Challenge

These Windsor, Ontario homeowners faced two serious problems in their basement.

1)      These homeowners were plagued for years with a problematic, leaky and humid basement. Water penetration was a regular occurrence, and although they only used their basement for mostly storage purposes, they were tired of dealing with the problems related to a wet basement.

2)     Step and horizontal cracks in their block concrete foundation were affecting the entire house with sloping floors, hard to open doors and windows, gaps between floors, walls and ceilings and damaged drywall.

People grow accustomed to dealing with wet basements. Cracks and a shifting foundation occur slowly over time, but when the structural integrity of the home is at risk, these homeowners knew it was past the time to take action.

Solution

Our team thoroughly inspected the home, noting the walls where water entered. They photographed and systematically documented the recommended course of action to waterproof the home and help the home to become structurally sound once again.

The thermal drywall not only acts as an extra layer of protection to divert leaking water into the improved drainage system, it also is a radiant barrier, helping the home to be more energy efficient.
