2015 Employee of the Year

I can't remember how long ago it was that I met Kevin. He started working with my Dad, wow, over 15 years ago...can that be right? Amazing how time flies, isn't it? 

Kevin is originally from Newfoundland and his Eastern Canadian whole-heartedness shines through the moment you meet him. He's a Mason by trade, just like my Dad, and he knows what hard work means. Kevin runs a crew here at Advanced Basement Systems now, and he does a fine job doing so. 

You know, many years ago when Martin started this company, Kevin worked for him as a bricklayer. Martin looked at Kevin and said, "One day we're going to make this basement thing work...and you'll have an office of your own and you'll run all the guys", Kevin...from what I was told...laughed that off and believe it or not, parted ways shortly thereafter from my Dad. 

Not too far into the future when the business moved to Chatham, Dad got a phone call from Kevin! He asked Martin if he had a position for him. With, what I can imagine was said with a huge smirk on his face, Dad responded with "I don't know Kev, you'll have to call my Production Manager!" Oh man! The dream came true, and while Kevin wasn't there at the very start, he's helped carry this company to the level it's at now. 

Dad and Kev don't work together directly anymore, but from time to time you'll see a glimpse of their bond- made from years of bricklaying on terrible jobsites, or 15 stories high in the dead of winter. It's pretty cool I've got to say. I was only a kid when I would see them together, and now being in my 20s I can tell you that both of them are 2 of the hardest working, coolest guys you could know and I'm proud to work alongside either of them. 

Here's to another great year, Kevin!
