How Does Your Sump Pump Measure Up?
Sump pumps are likely a part of your home that you don’t think about too much…as long as it’s working! When a sump pump fails, it can have disastrous consequences.
Take a moment to look at your sump pump, this is what you should see:
-
A completely sealed lid, which helps keep musty smells and dangerous radon gas out of your home.
-
A ball and cup sump pump drain on the lid which allows plumbing leaks to enter, but still keeping the airtight seal. An alarm will sound if this function is enabled, letting you know of a plumbing leak.
-
A battery-operated pump, in case there is a power failure, your sump pump will still function as it should.
-
A sump pump service reminder tag to help remind you of the next time to have your sump pump serviced.
What you might now be able to see, but also very important:
-
A powerful and cast-iron sump pump, which unlike plastic sump pumps, can overheat and fail.
-
A secondary pump, in the event the primary pump fails.
-
An alarm which goes off when water levels rise above the point where the pump should be functioning and letting you know the battery-backup pump is enabled.
-
A clog-resistant pump intake to help prevent dirt and debris from entering the sump pump liner.
