Speaking at the 2012 BBB Integrity Awards
Martin, Belal, Julie and myself headed up to the Hilton Hotel in London, ON the morning of November 7, 2012.
We had been invited to the breakfast by the Western Ontario BBB as we were last year's recipients of the Business Integrity Award. the BBB requested that a member from Advanced Basement Systems take a few minutes to go on stage and talk about what the award and scholarship money meant to them. I volunteered, or maybe it was by default!
I headed up to the stage before the winner was announced, which made it all the better. I find local, small and medium size businesses very important. What's even more important is that these businesses do their work with integrity, as I explained to a crowd of 270 business people from around Western Ontario.
The $2,500 scholarship we were awarded was given out through a competition to two post-secondary students. Lindy in Windsor and Lara in Guelph. I talked about this also, directing some ideas to the three potential winners, as they too would have to come up with a way to hand out the money.
It was a great meeting, breakfast and awards ceremony. A special thanks to Jan, the President of the BBB for a great 29 years in charge. Her retirement was announced to us all this morning. She did a lot as the "Chief of Small Business Police"!
We've been nominated for two other awards in London and Windsor, so hopefully my next award-themed blog will be about another win!
