Photo Album: Encapsulated Crawl Space in Dover Centre, ON
When a constant musty smell emanating from the crawl space became too much for these homeowners in Kent County, they decided to take action and call Advanced Basement Systems.
We noted that the existing vapour barrier was completely ineffective at sealing the crawl space. At one time, someone installed a cardboard type material on the ground – and the cardboard became the perfect breeding ground for mould and mildew!
The rotting cardboard combined with the humid and unsealed space resulted in a musty smell throughout the entire home.
Our team installed the super heavy duty CleanSpace Vapour Barrier System, sealing the entire space from the undesirable outside environment. Encapsulating the crawl space has many benefits:
- Controls mould & rot
- Works with insulation to help save money on utilities
- Keeps away pest/insects
- Acts as a passive radon mitigation system
- Seals away odours
- Can be walked on – creating additional storage space
To complete the encapsulation process and to further improve the comfort of the home, we sealed the liner and insulated the exterior walls with PolarFoam – a fantastic insulating product.
Now, these homeowners are enjoying the home again – without the smell and negative health effects of a nasty, musty odour.
