Help for a Tight Crawl Space in Belle River, ON
Challenge
The owners of this cottage-style residence had many challenges relating to a very tight crawl space in an addition on their home.
The unsealed crawl space was causing problems, such as:
- High humidity and a musty smell in the home.
- Cold floors which affected the comfort of the space and impacted their heating bills.
- Sloping floors, as the beams and joists were not adequately supported.
- The unlevel floors caused doors and windows to stick and gap in this part of the home.
Solution
This crawl space was simply too tight to work under and perform the necessary repairs. The only option was to remove the existing flooring and tackle the problem from above.
The flooring was removed so our team could successfully access the space. Although a challenge, our team was able to encapsulate the crawl space with our CleanSpace® Liner – completely sealing it from the adverse effects of the environment outside and under the home.
To further help with the comfort of the home, our team also applied PolarFoam® Spray Insulation. There are many benefits to this type of insulation, including:
- Higher R-value than other insulation types.
- Highly adhesive; sticks permanently to all standard building materials.
- Closed-cell SPF is waterproof; it won’t absorb or be damaged by moisture.
- Expanding action efficiently fills gaps and seals leaks.
- Spray foam provides air-sealing and insulation in a single step.
To resolve the issue of slanted floors, we installed SmartJacks® support system to properly level and support the structure.
Because mould was present in this crawl space, our trained team used an industrial grade product which cleans and removes the presence of mould from the existing wood structures.
Our team was able to complete this project quickly to minimize the inconvenience to the homeowners. We are happy to offer these homeowners a healthy crawl space and permanent solution to their problems.
