Problem: Many homeowners believe that putting a layer of gravel in their crawl space will solve the water and moisture problems. This isn’t true and doesn’t work.
Gravel is porous and it does not stop water from moving or collecting.
Fixing a crawl space with a gravel floor presents two challenges:
It is difficult to dig trenches and create drains to properly direct the water out of the crawl space compared to dirt.
To further keep the humidity level acceptable and encapsulate the space, a very heavy duty liner is required, as the liner will be more prone to rips and tears with the rough gravel below it.
Solution:
Our experienced team members were able to create trenches and drains to effectively move the water into the crawl space sump pump.
Our CleanSpace®️ Liner is super heavy duty and durable enough to withstand the rocky floor encapsulated below.

Problem: This older home in the country had visible signs of water damage in their unfinished basement on the concrete block walls. The basement was damp and very cold during the winter months.
Solution: We installed a perimeter drain along the problem walls to safely move the leaking water to the home’s sump pump system. While not all homeowners have a need to finish their basement, an unfinished basement can affect a home's energy efficiency and comfort. Our crew also installed a ThermalDry® Wall system. It protects your finished basement from moisture and water that naturally passes through concrete foundation walls. This product serves as both a vapour barrier and also as a way to redirect water leaking through the basement walls into the new perimeter drainage system.
This radiant barrier ensures that the heat stays in the home, improving energy efficiency and comfort.

Problem: These Comber homeowners had two basement walls which leaked during heavy rains and an older sump pump with an open sump pit. These combined factors created a very humid and undesirable environment in their basement and throughout their entire home.
Solution: We waterproofed the problematic walls. The new perimeter drain will direct any water into their upgraded sump pump system – their new system includes a battery backup to help protect the homeowners in case of rain during a power outage. Our team finished off the walls with our ThermalDry® Basement Radiant Wall Barrier which not only keeps the water from leaking into the basement but also improves the comfort of the entire home and helps to reduce energy costs.
Because this home is prone to having a humid basement environment, these homeowners also opted to have the super quiet, efficient and hassle-free SaniDry™ Sedona Dehumidifier.

Problem: The access to this crawl space was very tight. The opening also allowed the undesirable outside weather and critters to enter the crawl space area.
Solution: We improved the drainage around the access, enlarged it to aid in entry and sealed it with one of our maintenance-free EverLast™ Crawl Space Doors.
Job done! Thank you for choosing Advanced Basement Systems!
